The Murang’a Water and Sanitation Company Limited (MUWASCO) was registered in March 2006 under the Companies Act CAP 486 of the laws of Kenya and is an agent of Tana Water Services Board through the signing of a Service Provision Agreement (SPA) under the Water Act 2002, to provide efficient, reliable and economical water and sewerage services in Murang’a town and its environs. Our current SPA runs from 30th May 2012 to 30th May 2017. Our SPA area is 145km2 and currently we cover 60km2 which represent 41% coverage of our area of jurisdiction.

Currently we operate one water treatment plant (Kiawambeu) and one sewerage treatment plant (Karii). Kayahwe water treatment plant is currently idle but will be used in the near future.

Our production capacity is 15,000m3 per day which is above our
current demand of 7,000m3 per day.

Currently the company has 10,000 active water connections and 3,900 sewerage connections and we serve a population of appr. 60,000 people with water out of an estimated population of appr. 71,000.
